The Police in Asaba Delta state have arrested a 39 year old commercial driver Ifeanyi Chukwuma for allegedly raping a 29 year old lady name (withheld) under disguised assistance.
The Police image maker in Delta, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to journalists in Asaba yesterday, disclosed that the bus driver pretended to be of help to
the victim in a commercial bus she boarded from Onitsha to Asaba, en route Olumoro Isoko Local Government of the state, adding that the victim entered the commercial bus from Onitsha to Koka junction in Asaba but on getting to Asaba it was nightfall as it became difficult for her to get a place to sleep.
It was gathered that the suspect capitalizing on the situation of the victim who do not know where to sleep, allegedly convinced her to follow him home as he could offer comfort and safety for her.
Having no option the victim was said to have consented to the suspect offer and being a total stranger followed him to his house but this was not to be when it got to midnight, the suspect allegedly descended on her, tied her mouth with cloth and unlawfully had sex with through the anus.
It was further gathered that the victim, however, managed to escape from the house when the suspect was in deep sleep and reported the matter to vigilante group in Oduke area of Asaba where actions were immediately taken to arrest the suspect.
Speaking further the police image maker said that the suspect was arrested after the victim had reported the matter to the vigilante who later upon arrest handed over to the police adding that upon interrogation the suspect confessed to the crime.
He said that the incident occurred on Saturday night said that the complainant in her report explained how the suspect tied her mouth and put on his generating set including increasing the volume of his musical set so that the neighbor would not what was happening, adding that the suspect would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
