The Dean, Faculty of Arts at the University of Abuja, Prof. Effiok Bassey Uwatt, has said that he would reach out to the French Embassy, as well as French village at Badagry, to Solicit for their assistance on how the faculty would be equipped, if the French programme is being established in the Institution.
He said this in an interview with newsmen after he was re-elected for the second time as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
He said: “We have already proposed and we are hoping that by next academic session, French should come up. Having had full accreditation in all the programmes of the faculty is to bring up more programmes. And the first on the list will be French programme”.
He said his leadership would be geared towards expanding the programmes of the Faculty, pointing out that for this to happen, the faculty needs more classrooms, offices for the staff, as well as equipment.
He expressed dismay that the language laboratory of the faculty has no roof over it for now, noting that there are three or four uncompleted buildings within the faculty.
This, according to him, they had earlier last year sought for permission from the Vice-Chancellor to source for money to complete the buildings.
Uwatt, therefore, said that most of the programmes or courses being run in the faculty were accredited by NUC, pointing out that his leadership would rebrand some courses such as Islamic Studies and Philosophy that were not patronised by the students for now.
Dean appealed to the Vice-chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Adikwu, to as a matter of urgency to provide the needed facilities in the faculty for the benefit of the students.
