At least seven persons have been killed and four others critically injured following an attack by suspected armed bandits on “Channel One,” a border settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area, Benue State.
The community, located along the Arufu Wukari road linking Benue and Taraba states, came under assault late Saturday into Sunday.
Chairman of Logo LGA, Clement Kav, who confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday, said the attackers stormed the area, killed residents and fled.
“They killed seven persons and injured four others. As usual, they attack and retreat to where they came from,” Kav said, adding that he had briefed the Commissioner of Police and the state’s Homeland Security Adviser on the development.
A local resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the assailants struck around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2026, killing at least six persons identified as Akor Gwakyaa, Msooter Gwakyaa, Aondoungwa Michael, Vershima Michael, Terna Michael and Msughter Terzungwe.
The source added that several others sustained life-threatening injuries and were receiving treatment at medical facilities in Anyiin, while those in critical condition had been moved to Ugba town for further care.
According to the eyewitness, the attackers, suspected to be armed herders, arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and wielded firearms. He alleged that they were operating from camps in Shaor, a deserted village reportedly identified in previous intelligence reports as a base for such groups.
The attack has triggered fresh displacement, with residents of the affected and neighbouring communities fleeing their homes for fear of further violence.
The witness called for intensified coordinated security operations to dislodge suspected camps in border areas, as well as the establishment of a joint inter-state task force involving Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states to curb cross-border attacks.
He stressed the need for sustained security presence in volatile council wards within Logo LGA to restore confidence among residents amid recurring violence in the area.
