In order to effectively cover all the 36 states and FCT, 774 local government areas of the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday in Abuja has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Union Of Road transport Workers (NURTW) on conveyance of election materials.
The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who confirmed the development, said it was the belief of the commission that signing the MoU would go a long way in improving the work of INEC.
Prof. Jega maintained that the MoU would is expected to address the issue of distribution of election logistics, especially the recurrent experienced delay in transporting electoral officers and election materials on election days.
The National Chairman of NURTW, Dr Najeem Yasin, said that the union would not disappoint INEC on the implementation of the signed MoU from the national chapter to the states and local government chapters.
Yasin said that the union would not hesitate to sanction any of its members or state chapters that default in the implementation of MoU.
