Former governor of Abia state Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has declared that the deployment of troop and ammunitions alone cannot curtail the menaces posed by the Boko Haram.
Kalu said there is need to improve intelligence gathering by the Armed Forces and security agencies as one of the ways of resolving the challenge of insurgency especially in the north eastern part of Nigeria.
Kalu said “As far as I am concerned, if they say they will do it with military power, I have not seen anywhere where guns have solved the problem, after war, you will still come back to the table to design how you will move forward. I genuinely want to see government agencies and Boko Haram to sit down and talk and sort out their problems.”
He also dismissed fears over the break up of Nigeria ahead of the 2015 general elections affirming that such anxiety is misplaced and no longer fashionable.
He lamented the greed that has permeated the leadership of the country and said, “For me, politics is about people and in Nigeria, we have got the number. I think we should come out and cooperate.
“What is happening today is that politicians are very selfish, working for themselves and not for those who elected them into power. I’m very disappointed with some of them. Most of them are stealing money and packing it outside. What will they do with those things?
“What I’m afraid of is not disintegration, but rather, revolution by the people. It’s not going to be by the police, but by the people just like what happened in Romania where people stood up against the government’, he added.
