As momentum builds ahead of the 2027 general elections, the contest for the Okene/Ogori-Magongo Federal Constituency seat is shaping into a keenly fought battle, with Dr. Hope Omeiza emerging as a formidable contender.
Omeiza’s growing profile is expected to test the second-term ambition of the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Ozigi Muhammed Tijani, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives. Political observers say increasing calls for a fresh face may further intensify the race.
Speaking with journalists, a stakeholder, Samuel Ahovi Joseph, said Omeiza, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is gaining significant traction among party faithful and constituents, largely due to his grassroots engagement and humanitarian interventions across Kogi Central.
According to him, through the Hope Omeiza Foundation, the aspirant has spearheaded several initiatives aimed at improving living conditions in underserved communities.
These include the provision of potable water, empowerment programmes, and targeted support for widows and the elderly.
In the health sector, Omeiza—a medical doctor and public health specialist—has led free medical outreaches for vulnerable groups, while also championing mental health awareness and drug abuse prevention.
His work in this area is notably driven through the Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA), an organisation he founded to combat substance abuse among youths.
Beyond healthcare, Omeiza is said to have contributed to youth development through job creation, educational support, and initiatives such as chess competitions designed to promote intellectual growth.
He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), with further training in public health, clinical psychology, and addiction management—credentials supporters say position him as a well-rounded professional.
Joseph noted that Omeiza’s rising influence within the APC could significantly shape the party’s primary election, especially as voters increasingly prioritise credibility, performance, and grassroots impact.
With the elections still some distance away, analysts believe the race for the constituency will hinge on competence, track record, and the ability of candidates to address the developmental needs of the people.
